Gov. Thomas E. Dewey today signed a bill prohibiting colleges and universities in New York from accepting endowments conditioned on the institution’s teaching racial supremacy. The measure was endorsed by the Association of Colleges and Universities of New York.
It makes acceptance of such an endowment an unfair educational practice. Under state law an institution can lose its standing if it commits such practices. Signing the bill, the Governor suggested that it be amended to facilitate enforcement.
