The City of New York today honored the late Henrietta Szold, founder of the Hadassah organization, by renaming a street for her in the heart of the lower East Side.
An official ceremony took place at the corner of Dry Deck and 11th Street during which Mrs. Samuel W. Halprin, Hadassah’s national president, removed the Dry Dock nameplates and replaced them with signs reading “Szold Place.” Present were city officials and about 1,000 Hadassah members. Speakers at the ceremony included Zionist leaders and representatives of the municipality.
