The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York launched its 29th annual fund-raising campaign with a goal of $12,000,000. The increase of $3,000,000 over last year’s goal was attributed to rising living costs, with food prices showing an increase of from 27 to 53 percent over those a year ago, Louis M. Loeb, campaign chairman stated.

Opening the drive at a luncheon at the Hotel Astor, Mr. Loeb said price rises “have pushed upward the operating costs of hospitals, family welfare, vocational guidance and child care agencies, nurseries, old age projects, community centers and other welfare institutions, affiliated with the Federation,” Norman S. Goetz, Federation president, also spoke.
