Officers and members of 37 liberal synagogues in the metropolitan area yesterday met at Temple Emanu-El at the annual Chunakah con##ve sponsored by the New York Federation of Reform Synagogues.
Principal speakers were Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of Hebrew Union Col##ge; Dr. Maurice Eisendrath, president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Rabbi William F. Rosenblum, president of the Synagogue Council of America. Rabbi Rosenblum called for liberal Judaism to “recapture” its basic “missionary pririt” while Dr. Glueck linked the past history of the Jews with their present religious aspirations. Dr. Eisendrath identified the U.N. decision on Palestine with Chanukah, referring to the former as an “augury of greatest importance in the history of world Jewry.”
