More than $3,000,000 in contributions were pledged tonight to the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York as it launched its 39th annual appeal to raise $18,100,000 for its 116 affiliated health and welfare agencies at a dinner at the Hotel Plaza. It was the largest amount ever raised by the Federation at an opening dinner for the maintenance of local medical and welfare needs.
More than 500 prominent business, professional and civic leaders from Greater New York attended the dinner, which served also as a testimonial to Dr. Maurice B. Nexter and Joseph Willen, executive vice-presidents of the organization for the past fifteen years.
