New York State has made progress in its campaign to eliminate racial and religious discrimination, but “continuous efforts” are necessary to maintain the State’s record in that field, Governor Averell Harriman declared today.
Gov. Harriman and Ward B. Arbury, of Buffalo, chairman of the New York State Commission Against Discrimination, appeared on a television program marking the commission’s tenth anniversary. “Our practices,” said Mr. Harriman, “do not measure up to our principles. We have no reason for complacency. But I believe we can feel confident that we have set our feet on the right path–toward equal rights and equal opportunity for all.”
