A delegation of the Metropolitan Council of the American Jewish Congress asked Gov. Nelson Rockefeller and state legislators today to act to bar Christmas celebrations in public schools in New York state in accordance with United Sates Supreme Court rulings against such sectarian activities.
The 200 delegates, making their annual legislative day visit to Albany, also asserted that public school officials were ignoring the constitutional guarantee of separation of church and state and “are including prayers, Christmas carols and other religious observances in the classroom.”
