The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York formally dedicated yesterday its new $4,000,000 17-story building in mid-town. The Federation raises funds for 116 health and welfare agencies in Metropolitan New York.
Before the dedication ceremonies, Federation officials escorted Francis Cardinal Spellman, Roman Catholic Archbishop of New York, through the building. Among the other participants in the dedication ceremony were Gov. Thomas E. Dewey, who praised the work of federation agencies as “the finest example of human sympathy and care by neighbor for neighbor.”
Speakers at the dedication, in addition to Gov. Dewey, were Deputy Mayor Henry Epstein, Joseph M. Proskauer, Milton Weill, former president of the Federation, Salim L. Lewis, president of the Federation, Jack D. Weiler, chairman of the building committee, Frederick Brown, Dr. I. Edwin Goldwasser and Rabbi Simon G. Kramer.
