The Bronx Jewish Hospital in New York announces that it is unable to meet its bills for food, coal and lighting, and unless financial aid is received from outside it will have to close its doors. Mr. Alexander Selkin, the President of the Hospital, has reported to the United Hospital Fund. Tradesmen have refused further credit. The electric light company has threatened to discontinue the service, the doctors and nurses have not been paid regularly since the beginning of November, although their pay was out by 10 per cent. in May, and again by 10 per cent, and in some cases 20 per cent. in January.
For four days in the week no meat is served to patients, and the Hospital has exhausted its supply of oxygen for emergency cases and is unable to obtain any more.
