New York Jewry will observe the 15th Anniversary of Israel’s Independence Day on Sunday, April 28, at a gala concert to be held at the new Philharmonic Hall, Lincoln Center, under the auspices of the American Zionist Council, coordinating body of all Zionist organizations. The New York celebration will usher in similar functions to be held under the joint Zionist sponsorship in many major communities in all parts of the country.
The New York celebration at Philharmonic Hall will highlight as speaker Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, who will be presented with the annual Louis D. Brandeis award of the American Zionist Council. The presentation will be made by Rabbi Irving Miller, Council chairman.
Addresses of greetings will be delivered by Mayor Robert F. Wagner of New York, and Ambassador Katriel Katz, Consul General of Israel. The musical program will feature members of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Elyakum Shapira, distinguished Israeli conductor; Erick Freedman, violinist and Netania Davrath, soloist.
