Mayor Vincent Impellitteri today launched a membership drive for the New York Chapter of the American Friends of the Hebrew University at a reception tendered by the chapter to the members of the Israel delegation at the United Nations.
The reception commemorated the 26th anniversary of the opening of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Among those who attended the reception were: Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt; Senator John Sparkman of Alabama, member of the United States Mission to the United Nations; Dr. I.I. Rabi, Professor of Physics, Columbia University and a Nobel Prize winner; and Dr. Selman Waksman of Rutgers University, discoverer of streptomycin.
