The first volume of a reprint of a classic work, “Ethics of the Fathers,” printed by teen-age Israeli students at Boys Town, Jerusalem on a press recently sent by New York printers was presented to Mayor Robert F. Wagner at City Hall today by Ira Guilden, chairman of the board of the school’s American Committee. A copy of the book had been promised to the mayor during his visit to Israel last year when work on the volume was just being started.
In presenting the volume, Mr. Guilden pointed out that the “Ethics of the Fathers,” one of the 63 tracts in the Talmud, represents a code of ethics and conduct for human relations. In response, the mayor expressed his gratitude for the gift and observed that although compiled so very many years ago “its ethical concepts are applicable to life today.” He also expressed his deep interest in the work of the school and asked that his personal thanks be conveyed to members of the committee and others who have supported it.
