A rare Hebrew Bible, a gift of Mayor Israel Rokach of Tel Aviv, was today presented to Mayor William O’Dwyer as “a token of the gratitude of the Jews of Palestine” for his “humanitarian services to the Jewish people.”
In making the presentation, Jacob Sincoff, treasurer of the United Palestine Appeal, who brought the Bible back with him from a recent trip to Palestine, paid tribute to O’Dwyer who as chairman of President Roosevelt’s War Refugee Board aided many Jews in escaping from the Nazis.
