Mayor Robert F. Wagner today proclaimed October “United HIAS Service Month” in New York, at a City Hall ceremony attended by Ben Touster, president of the Jewish migration organization, Arthur Greenleigh, executive director, and other officials.
The opening of United HIAS Service Month will be officially designated on October 4 with a ceremony on Astor Place and Lafayette Street–near the United HIAS building–when Borough President Hulan Jack changes the Astor Place street sign to read “United HIAS Service Place.”
