In honor of the late Dr. Chaim Weizmann, a “Freeman” of New York City, and in recognition of his achievements as a statesman and a scientist, Mayor Vincent R. Impellitteri today proclaimed December 17th, Weizmann Memorial Day.
December 17th was chosen by the Mayor to coincide with the “Salute to the Memory of Chaim Weizmann,” which will take place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel with the widow of Dr. Weizmann in attendance. Present at the reading of the proclamation today were Meyer W. Weisgal, chairman of the executive council of the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovoth, and Abraham Feinberg, president of the American Committee for the Institute.
