The executive of the Medical Society of New York County, at its meeting last night, adopted a resolution condemning the practice of importing “Nazi doctors” to the United States. The resolution censored the practice of “these medical monsters.”
The resolution was adopted in connection with the hiring by the U.S. Air Force of Dr. Walter Schreiber, former general in Hitler’s army, who was charged at the Nuremberg war crimes trials with being an accessory to “medical experiments” conducted on prisoners in Nazi concentration camps.
Secretary of Air Force Thomas A. Finletter, yesterday informed the Medical Society here that Dr. Schreiber will leave the United States “in a few weeks.” Secretary Finletter explained that Dr. Schreiber, who until recently had been working at the Air Force School of Aviation Medicine at Randolph Field, Texas, on a six-month contract, was “hired because of his extensive experience in the fields of epidemiology and military preventive medicine.” The Secretary said the Nazi doctor “has not occupied a position of trust, responsibility or importance in the school, nor has he taught there.”
