An intensive campaign to raise Israel bond funds for the economic development of Israel was inaugurated tonight by leaders of eight national organizations representing Orthodox Jewry in the United States at a dinner conference here. The representatives of more than 2,000 Orthodox Jewish Congregations, adopted a proclamation urging Orthodox Jews in this country to support the State of Israel Bond drive “as a sacred obligation on behalf of the Jewish people.”
The proclamation also urges “every rabbi and synagogue president to set aside immediately a date to have their congregations sponsor an undertaking for the purpose of selling Israel Bonds to aid our brethren in Israel and to designate immediately a day during the forthcoming High Holy Days for a direct Israel Bond appeal.” Principal speaker at the meeting was Colonel Benjamin Givli of the Israel Defense Army, who participated in the recent Sinai expedition.
