More than $2,100,000 was pledged to the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York last night by 1,200 persons sttending 10 fund-raising events held as part of “Salute to Israel Week” now being observed in commenoration of the second anniversary of Israel’s declaration of independence.
Contributions totalling more than $1,000,000 were announced at the Hotel Plaza at a dinner of 250 business leaders in honor of Frank L. Weil, who retired last week as president of the National Jewish Welfare Board. Film star Edward G. Robinson, reporting on his recent visit to Israel, paid tribute to the people of Israel for haveing offered a haven to 365,000 victims of war and persecution in the first two years of their state’s existence.
