The New York University Medal was presented today to Dr, Benjamin Mazar, president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem who is now visiting this country. The presentation was made by Dr. Carroll V. Newsom, NYU president, at a luncheon tendered in honor of Dr. Mazar at the New York University Club.
A citation accompanying the medal read: “Ardent archaeologist, sagacious scholar, and energetic educator, Benjamin Mazar has contributed significantly to our growing appreciation of the precious cultural heritage we share. Since 1953 distinguished president of the Hebrew University, strategically located at the very cradle of our civilization, Dr. Mazar for nearly three decades industriously has been digging up the past while building for the future.”
