A 24-hour vigil began at 11 a.m. today in front of the West German Consulate to protest the “rise of right-wing and neo-Nazi elements in West Germany.”
About 50 student representatives of the 10 Zionist youth movements in the American Zionist Youth Council, sponsors of the vigil, participated in the 24-hour protest. They carried banners and posters and handed out information leaflets. They will remain in front of the Consulate till early tomorrow morning.
In the afternoon today, a delegation of four representatives of the Council met with Klaus Curtius, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, and presented him with a statement. The statement said that the American Zionist Youth Council sees “as dangerous the rise of ultra-nationalist and radical rightist elements in the Federal Republic of Germany. Specifically we point to the recent electoral successes of the extremist National Democratic Party in the German states of Hesse and Bavaria.”
