New York’s Spanish & Portugese Synagogue is donating four dozen prayer books to a Jewish center in Bosnia that houses one of the world’s oldest Sephardi synagogues. The gift to La Benevolencija is being made because “Sarajevo has historically been a hub of Sephardi Jewry, and many of our congregants’ ancestries can be traced back to that part of the world,” said Rabbi Marc Angel, spiritual leader of the New York shul.
