The Association of Presidents of Orthodox Synagogues has appealed to the City Commission, local governing body, to pass an ordinance licensing itinerant rabbis, particularly those who seek to establish the “mushroom” type of synagogue during the High Holydays. Simon Englander, attorney, who argued for the motion, asserted the city may expect an influx because New York has already adopted such a regulation. Mayor Ellenstein is known to favor the proposed ordinance.
A. Sigmund Kanengieser, of this city, past Grandmaster of the Independent Order Brith Sholom and chairman of the New Jersey State Council of the Order announced that twelve racial charities and three non-sectarian in Newark and Elizabeth, will receive checks from the welfare fund of the Order because of deserving work.
