Oscar and Frank Schilling, who were detained while their Nazi activities were investigated by Newark police, were released last night and the guard maintained by police at their home on Gillette Place was removed. The Schillings were taken into custody when a fire in the basement of their home revealed the existence of a Nazi headquarters, photographs of bridges, Nazi literature and a large number of industrial chemical formulae, apparently collected here by Nazi enthusiasts.
Police declared that they were unable to detain the Schillings any longer in view of the fact that there were no specific charges against them. The brothers promptly left for an unknown destination and efforts to locate them proved unsuccessful.
However, the investigation of their activities begun by Federal secret service men is to continue. A request that it be supplemented by an investigation by the United States Department of Labor has been made by Congressman Dickstein. Both the Schillings are aliens.
