Mrs. Mortiz Speier, of Rockville Center, L. I., will adress the Sisterhood of Temple Israel of Long Beach, L. I., a unit of the Women’s League of the United Synagogue on Monday, February 5.

Women’s League Day, an annual event, in honor of Mrs. Solomon Shechter, founder of the United Synagogue, was celebrated Thursday by the Sisterhoods comprising the Long Island Division at the Far Rockaway Jewish Center. Mrs. Israel Davidson, president of the New York City branch, addressed the meeting.

The Women’s League of the United Synagogue broadcasts every Thursday afternoon, 2:45 to 3:00 o’clock over Station WINS.

BRONX BEACON INSTALLATION

Samuel Stickfe was inducted into executive membership of the recently organized Bronx Beacon Association, Inc., Thursday night at the Royal Mansion. The new member was one of the eight-three Bronx jews who indorsed the Recovery Party and protested against the racial issue.

President Hyman B. Jackson presided. Other participants were Dr. I. Rosenberg, Dr. L. Liebow, J. B. Deinstein, Mark, L. Giller, Bernard Simon, Charies Shorr, Louis Capatman, Joseph Balter, William Weiss, Alfred G. Weiss, Louis Emanuel, Hyman Sherman and Henry Diamond.

PLAN ENTERTAINMENT

District Grand Lodge No 1 of the Free Sons of Israel will hold an entertainment and dance at the Hotel Lissmore (Level Club) 73rd Street, West of Broadway, on Sunday Evening, March 4th, for the benefit of the German Jews and German Refugees in foreign lands.

CIVIL SERVICE MEETING

Elliott H. Kaplan of the Civil Service Reform Association and former Magistrate Joseph Goldstein will be guest speakers at the meeting of the Hebrew Civil Service Association Tuesday evening at the Broadway Central Hotal.

Additions to the executive council of the association were announced by I. Harry Goodley, president. They are Ali David Good, department of finance; Irving Feuer, fire department and Reuben Silverman, finance department, Brooklyn.

JWEISH COUNCIL URGES DELAY

At an executive committee meeting held of Greater New York, affirming its faith in the idea of a World Jewish Congress, decided to urge postponement of the Congress so that more careful and systematic plans may by made.

Among the other questions taken uo were those of appeals from various charitable organizations, discrimination against Jews in the field of employment, and the problem of giving information and help to Jewish residents here whose relatives are emigrating from Germany of the Council, presided.

The resolution of the World Congress called upon the American Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress Executive Committee in Eurpe “to postpone the present plans for the election of delegates and to give further consideration to the needs of the Congress movement, with the idea of holding the Congress one year later.”

The meeting also called upon all Jewish organizations of New York to help put through the Tydings resolution now pending before the Senate.

WELCOME RABBI GOLDMAN

A congregational dinner to welcome Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Goldenson to Temple Emanuel-El, Fifth Avenue and Sixty-fith Street, will take place Sunday evening, February 25th, in the Israel M. Wise Memorial Hall in the Temple buildings.

LIEBERMAN GUEST AT FESTIVAL

Dr. Elias Lieberman, poet and principal of the Thomas Jefferson High School, will be the guest of honor and Keynote speaker at the fourth amual Palestine Festival, conducted under the auspices of the League of the Jewish Youth, next Monday afternoon, February 12 at the downtown City College Auditorium, 23rd Street and Lexington Avernue.

OFFIER SPRING COURSES

The Jewish Youth Guild announces the opening of the sping term of the Institute for Adult Edication at the Cameron Hotel, 41 West 86th Streetm offering courses in Hebrew language and literature, Jewish history and philiosophy and Present Day Palestine. Registration takes place every evening this week between 8:30 and 10:30. Sessions begin February 15th.

SEMEL REPORT ON WORK OF JEWISH EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

A report on the work of the Jewish Education Association by Bernard Semel, its honorary secretary, is featured in the first issue of the “Jewish Education News,” which has just appeared. This bulletin of the Jewish Educational Association is devoted to news of various Jewish cultural groups.

Articles on the expansion program of the Women’s Division of the “Banim,” a young men’s group for Jewish Education, and the enlistment of leaders in industry and the professional council for Jewish education, are included among the contents of this publication.

YONKERS COMMUNITY CENTER TO CAMPAIGN FOR $30,000

Plans for a campaign to raise $30,000 to take place the week of February 25 were launched Thursday night at a meeting of the Jewish Community Center of Yonkers. Irving. Schneider was chairman.

The drive, to be conducted with the assistance of the make solvent the finances of the Yonkers institution.
