Rabbi Melbourne Harris of Peoria, Ill., has been chosen to fill the post left vacant at the Temple here by the resignation of Rabbi Leon I. Feuer, who was called to Toledo. Rabbi Harris will assist Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver and will be minister of religious education. He will assume his duties in August until when Rabbi David Sherman will be in charge.
The Oakland Jewish Federation elected Dr. Charles Wise president at its sixteenth annual meeting. Dr. Herbert J. Samuels was chosen first vice-president; Michael ###din, second vice-president; I### Wachs, secretary, and Ma### Silver, treasurer.
Bernard Silverstein, retiring president, reported that the federation spent $28,000 last year. The free loan department granted sixty-nine applications.
J. B. S. Haldane, English scientist, addressed a large audience of Philadelphia Forum members at the Academy of Music on “Is There a Superior Race?” He answered the question in layman’s language with special reference to racial discrimination now being practiced in Germany, declaring he believes “racial superiority” always has been a mythical conception used by politicians for their own purposes.
Dr. Howard F. Adler, physician and member of the city’s health advisory board, died here while on a visit to the municipal relief home, He was a son of A. A. Adler ### Mrs. Esther Adler, founders of the Adler Sanitorium here. A sister, Mrs. Felix Kahn, also survives.
