Only energetic newspaper intervention prevented a blood ritual accusation against the Jews in the Greek town of Volo from having serious consequences. Two Jewish hawkers were arrested in Volo on a charge of trying to kill a Greek boy for ritual purposes.
The arrest caused great anti-Jewish agitation, but the intervention of the newspapers in running down this barbaric superstitious belief, resulted in the release of the two hawkers by the public prosecutor.
