Newton If. Minow, the 34-year-old lawyer and associate of Adlai Stevens on who was named yesterday by President-elect Kennedy as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, is a member of the executive of the American Jewish Committee in Chicago. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago.
Mr. Minow is a member of a Reform temple and a board member of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, He graduated at the head of his class at Northwestern University law school in 1950 and served as an army sergeant in World War II. He was legal secretary to the late Supreme Court Justice Fred Vinson. Last year he was named as one of the 10 outstanding young men by the Chicago Junior Chamber of Commerce.
