Funeral services were held today for Senator Jakob Niemirower, chief rabbi of Bucharest and principal leader of the Rumanian Jews, who died on Friday of aneurism (dilation of the arteries) after a strenuous day’s work. He was 67 years old.
Members of the Jewish community paid their last respects to Rabbi Niemirower yesterday as his body lay in state in the Great Temple. Rumanian Jews were deeply affected by a British Broadcasting Company eulogy of the chief rabbi in the Rumanian language.
