The Jewish Agency disclosed today that it had reopened nine maabarot (transit camps) to house newly-arrived immigrants from Eastern Europe. The number of immigrants already arrived here now exceeds the permanent housing made ready for the immigrant flood in a speeded-up construction program.
Figures published today on the vocational composition of the new immigration indicated that Israel stands to profit by acquisition of professional skills. In the five months since large-scale immigration was renewed from Eastern Europe, about 500 professional men and women have arrived here. Their number included 162 medical doctors, 100 engineers and 90 economists and accountants.
