Nine youngsters ranging in age from ten to 15 years were yesterday found guilty of having desecrated the Congregation Hadrat Israel cemetery at Melrose, Massachusetts. At the same time, Judge Lawrence Brooks of Juvenila Court, in Malden, continued for another six months the cases of 11 other members of the gang which several months ago invaded the cemetery and overturned 69 headstones, and caused other damages.
The judge ordered the parents of the youths to pay the $4,200 worth of damage, but it is not considered likely that the entire sum will be recovered because of the small installments in which he ordered the sum paid. He also ordered the nine convicted youngsters to report to the Youth Service Board, a form of probation for children.
