Ninety voices, lifted in songs of Israel, enthralled more than 500 persons at Temple Center this week at the annual concert of the Halevy Singers, premier Northwest Jewish choral organization.
But a stocky, dark-complexioned, soft-spoken man, who did no singing at all, was chiefty responsible for the success of the inspiring performance. He is Samuel Goldfarb, nationally-known authority on Jewish music, composer, choral director and Seattle’s outstanding Jewish musician.
‘RELIGION’ TO PUBLISH
“Religion,” a news-magazine, will see publication this coming Spring. According to an advance announcement from Atlanta, Georgia, it will not concern itself with theology and propaganda. It will be respectful in dealing with the facts of Protestantism, Catholicism and Jewry but it will be frank and direct in its appraisal of all news matterial.”
HONOR FREE SONS’ HEAD
Simon M. Goldsmith, great master of the Sons of Israel, was elected to the executive committee of the New York Fraternal Congress, comprising frternal insurance societies of the United States and Canada, at its annual meeting in the Hotel New Yorker. This is the first time in the history of the organization that such an honor was conferred upon a Jew.
