Recent reports emanating from Geneva concerning activities of an American Red Cross delegation in a number of cities in Nazi-occupied Poland, were today denied by Ralph G. Hubbell, Administrative assistant in the Washington office of the American Red Cross.
Mr. Hubbell disclosed that the last American Red Cross unit in Poland ceased its activities shortly after June, 1940. At that time, he stated, Genoa, which had been used as a port of trans-shipment for supplies from the United States, was closed to the Red Cross as a result of Italy’s entrance into the war. Later negotiations aimed at securing permission for the Red Cross to resume its work in Poland were unavailing, Mr. Hubbell revealed.
