No changes in the organization of Jewish communal institutions are contemplated by the new government, Vaclav Kopecky, Czechoslovak minister for Information and a leading member of the Czech Communist Party, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in an interview here this week-end. It is entirely an Eternal matter whether Actions Committees are formed within Jewish communal organizations, he added.
Asserting that recent events in the country can be interpreted as essentially a defeat of those forces which contained anti-Semitic and fascist tendencies, Kopecky declared that the new regime wishes to respect to the greatest extent the religious, civic and social rights of the Jews.
Asked whether any changes regarding the government’s attitude toward the emigration of Czech Jews to Palestine are contemplated, the Minister answered in the negative. He stated that there is no reason to change the policy which has been in effect up to now.
Regarding the Palestine issue, Kopecky stressed that the attitude remains “positive.” Nobody in the government is thinking of changing this positive viewpoint, ##e stated, adding: “On the contrary, the new Czechoslovak Government will persevere with increased stress in its efforts in behalf of a solution of the Palestine problem the spirit of the United Nations decision.”
