Following a six-hour strike of tradesmen and merchants here in protest against high rents, the District Commissioner of Jerusalem today informed a delegation of tenants that the new rent ordinance in Palestine, restricting rentals, will ### be applied in this city before 1936.
The growth of the Jewish population in Jerusalem and the shortage of dwellings have resulted in an effort on the part of many landlords to double rentals. This is especially resented by business men who, because of this substantial increase, would also have to raise prices on their merchandise.
The rent ordinance, forbidding landlords to charge rentals higher than the rate of $14 per room per month, has been instituted in the city of Tel Aviv. Residents here are now demanding that this law be applied also in Jerusalem.
