German-American societies, meeting here yesterday behind closed doors, agreed that the present situation in Germany would not be reflected here in their attitude toward Jews of German extraction. It was agreed that Jews from Germany would be considered as differing from other Germans only by religion.
Professing no attitude toward the Hitler regime, the delegates who yesterday organized a new State Verband of German language societies, also adopted no stand on the anti-Hitler protests which have been carried on in this country.
Very little publicity was given the conference which was held at Liederkranz Hall under the auspices of the United German Societies of Syracuse. P. K. Heldman, president of the group, presided as chairman. Delegates were present from New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, Utica, Troy, Albany and Binghamton. The next state assembly of the newly-organized state body will be held here in July.
