Chants of “No freedom, no trade” were heard outside the Los Angeles Sports Arena today as 15,000 spectators fried in to watch a performance by visiting Soviet gymnasts. About 75 demonstrators were protesting Soviet emigration restrictions, specifically the education head tax.

They urged support for the Jackson Amendment in the Senate and the Free Emigration bill of Reps. Wilbur Mills and Charles Vanik in the House which would deny the USSR most-favored-nation status in trade with the U.S. until obstacles to emigration are removed.

The demonstrators also protested the sale of Pepsi Cola in the arena. The Pepsico Corp. plans to, build a bottling plant in the USSR. They. Said they were not against cultural exchange but opposed only to the denial by Russia of humanitarianism.
