A French Defense Ministry spokesman today “most emphatically” denied the Manchester Guardian report that French Air Force personnel and planes served with the Israel forces in the Sinai campaign.
The spokesman said: “This is absolutely untrue. Not a single French pilot, whether in uniform or not, did take part in the Israel offensive or did fly planes from Israel bases.”
A spokesman for the French Air Ministry said it was possible former French pilots who chose to live in Israel years ago now belong to the Israel Air Force. “But they do not belong any more to the French Army. None of our pilots operated from or for Israel.”
