The elimination of Gegenwartsarbeit, the name given to the activity of Zionist groups as such in the political life of the country for the protection of Jewish interests, has been decided on at an extraordinary conference of the Austrian Zionist Party, which has agreed to confine itself to work on behalf of Palestine, except for matters relating to Jewish communal life in Austria, in which it will continue to participate.

The General Zionists, who voted for the resolution, were denounced as “no Zionists” by the Revisionists and the Stricker group of Radicals, who strongly opposed the resolution and voted against it.

A resolution put by the Revisionists to debate the present position in world Zionism was defeated by the Conference.
