CHANCELLOR KURT SCHUSCHNIGG OF AUSTRIA, IN AN INTERVIEW WITH THE NEWSPAPER L’INDEPENDANCE BELGE, DECLARED THERE WERE NO DISCRIMINATIONS AGAINST JEWS ON RACIAL GROUNDS, BUT ONLY AGAINST JEWISH IMMIGRANTS.
“THE JEWS OF AUSTRIA,” HE SAID, “DO NOT SUFFER FROM ANY DISCRIMINATIONS, THEREFORE THE RACIALIST MOVEMENT DOES NOT HAVE ANY FUTURE IN AUSTRIA. IT WAS NECESSARY TO DISCRIMINATE BETWEEN AUSTRIAN JEWS AND ALIEN JEWISH IMMIGRANTS, WHICH, HOWEVER, IS SOLELY A QUESTION OF NATIONALITY STATUS AND DOES NOT AFFECT RACE OR CREED.”
