War Secretary Anthony Eden today assured the House of Commons that there were no B or C aliens aboard the torpedoed Arandora Star but promised to investigate renewed charges that a number of these aliens were among the survivors.
Class B aliens were under certain restrictions before they were interned and the Class C were those who enjoyed complete liberty but were interned nevertheless. Both classes consist largely of refugees.
The War Secretary promised that no Nazis and anti-Nazis would be sent abroad to gather and that any B or C aliens sent out of the country would be accompanied or followed by their families.
The families of thousands of interned refugees were thrown into a panic by the disaster, fearing their interned relations were among the more than 1,000 German and Italian prisoners who perished when the ship went down.
