People’s Party Press Organs Continue Anti-Semitic Campaign (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

The insistence that the Roumanian People’s Party (Populist) headed by General Averescu, former Prime Minister, discontinue the anti-Semitic propaganda carried on by its press organs, was voiced by Jewish members of the party.

At the party conference held here yesterday, the Jewish members announced that they will be compelled to withdraw from the party unless the press discontinues its anti-Jewish campaign.

In reply to this demand M. Trancu of Jassy, formerly a member of the government in the Averescu cabinet, declared that the leadership of the People’s Party is opposed to anti-Semitism, the only anti-Semite in the party being the post, Octavian Goga. “Besides,” he added, “no Roumanian party is free of anti-Semitism.”

The Jewish members, dissatisfied with the explanation, left the session.
