A will of a Protestant benefactor, leaving approximately $150,000 to the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, was upheld today by a Queens County Judge who dismissed a family action against the bequest. ADL officials said the bequest from Mrs. Gertrude M. Ellis of Kew Garden Hills, N.Y., was the largest ever received from a non-Jewish donor.
Mrs. Ellis, who died last January 23, left the money to the ADL to set up a Kenneth Malcolm Ellis Memorial Fund in honor of her late husband. The money is to be used for education in better human relations. Mrs. Ellis became acquainted with the work of the ADL during her career as a teacher in a Brooklyn high school where she participated in special ADL human relations programs for schools.
