Non-Jews in East Chicago, Indiana, purchased $30,000 in State of Israel bonds this year to help the local Jewish community achieve a record sale of $100,000 thus far this year. This total was six times greater than total bond sales in 1957.
Heading the list of non-Jewish bond purchasers were Mayor Walter M. Jeorse and banker Walter J. Riley, each of whom bought $5,000 worth of the debentures. Mayor Jeorse’s mother was one of the most active workers in behalf of bond sales in the Christian community of East Chicago.
