The Jewish community of this Italian city today honored 50 Italian non-Jews who helped their Jewish fellow citizens during the Nazi occupation and the Fascist regime often at risk of their lives.
Among the 50 “certificates of merit” awarded were three given posthumously to the families of men who died on such missions. Some of the recipients were Catholic priests. Present at the ceremony, in the historic Palace of Dukes were the Mayor of Genoa, representatives of the Catholic Church and leading military and civil figures, beside many Jews.
