None of the 29 Jewish prisoners who escaped in Sunday’s mass jail break from Acre prison have been captured as of this afternoon, it was officially announced. Thus far 16 of the 182 Arab prisoners who were delivered by the Irgun have been retaken. The manhunt continues to be pressed with great vigor.
Unconfirmed reports from Tel Aviv state that the leader of the Irgun was Sergeant Dov Bernard Cohen, who served with British Commande units in North Africa during the war and won mention in battle dispatches. He was reported to have been found dead in a jeep which the extremists abandoned. A report that the government will appoint a committee to inquire into the raid could not be confirmed.
