Ceremonies attended by religious and lay leaders of Casablanca Jewry were held recently in that city to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Normal Hebrew School in Casablanca, Alan M. Stroock, chairman of the board of the American Friends of the Alliance Israelite Universelle, announced today. The school, established in 1946 by the Alliance Israelite Universelle, is the equivalent of an American teacher’s college and its hundreds of graduates teach Jewish subjects in various Alliance Israelite schools in North Africa or serve as spiritual leaders in Jewish communities throughout the world, Stroock said. The school has a current enrollment of 126 men and women from all parts of Morocco who receive a thorough training in liberal arts and science subjects as well as in advanced Jewish education. Emile Sebban, principal of the school, told the gathering that the school has greatly contributed to the strengthening and deepening of Jewish religious life in many communities, Stroock reported.
