North American Jewish leaders expressed their sadness at the death of King Hussein. In a statement, the Conference of Presidents of Major American jewish Organizations said the monarch “will be missed by all those who came to appreciate his manifold contributions to his country and region.” Since the mid-1980s, Hussein met often with representatives of American Jewish organizations to promote Middle East peace and to bolster U.S. political and economic support for Jordan.
