The Office of War Information today quoted a report form the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter stating that about 300 Norwegian Jews who escaped deportation to Poland are being hidden from the Nazi police by friendly Norwegians.
“Besides hiding these Jews in the countryside, Norwegians have started collections of funds for Jews still remaining in Norway,” the paper reported. The Nazis issued an order to the Norwegian police to confiscate such collections and to arrest all persons connected with them, the report stated.
The suggestion that the Jews of Finland be allowed to seek asylum in Sweden is made by the Swedish newspaper Arbetaren, according to a report received by the O.W.I. The newspaper said that while Finland hasn’t “been compelled” to adopt any anti-Jewish laws as yet, Jewish refugees there are threatened with “the same cruel fate” as the Jews in Norway.
