A Palestine Arts Collection Society has been formed, according to an announcement which appears in the form of a letter to the “London Times” yesterday.
The organizers of the society include Sir Robert Mond, brother of the late Lord Melchett; Sir Ronald Storrs, former Governor of Jerusalem; Sir Herbert Samuel, former High Commissioner for Palestine, Lady Erleigh, daughter of the late Lord Melchett and Sir Flinders Petrie, noted archaeologist.
The new organization is to be known as “Friends of the Palestine Museum.”
The leaders of the society, in making their announcement, point out that there is considerable danger that objects throwing light on the development of the Jewish, Moslem and Christian religious arts, now distributed throughout the world, may disappear.
They ask for outright gifts or pieces for exhibition. The group plans to secure accommodations in Palestine for an exhibition of the articles.
The interest of the society extends to all objects illustrating the history of antiquities in the Holy Land and the development of various movements which had their roots there.
