Brandeis University announced today the appointment of Hortense Calisher, a novelist and Marvin Meyers, an historian, to its faculty for the 1963-1964 academic year. The university’s board of trustees, which confirmed the appointments, also said that 24 other educators had also been named to its staff for the next year.
Miss Calisher, whose latest novel is “Textures of Life,” will be a visiting professor of English. Mr. Meyers, who will be a professor of History at Brandeis, won the American Historical Association’s Dunning Prize for his “The Jacksonian Persuasion” in 1958.
Two other professorships announced by Brandeis were for Joseph S. Berliner, of racuse University, formerly associate director of the Harvard Russian Research inter, who will be professor of economics, and Marry E. Griffin, professor emeritus Vassar College, who will be visiting professor of English.
